Earthquake Shook Contra Costa Thursday Night

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.3 hit Contra Costa County at 10:41 p.m.

The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting that an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.3 shook an area of Contra Costa County Thursday  night.

According to the USGS, the tremor struck at 10:41 p.m. and had an epicenter in Pittsburg near the intersection of state Highway 4 and Railroad Avenue.

The quake, which had a depth of 10.3 miles, originated from an area a few miles northeast of the nearest major fault line, the Clayton-Marsh Creek-Greenville Fault, according to the USGS.
