Burning Big-Rig Causes Richmond-San Rafael Bridge Lane Closure

In case you're commuting home to Hercules from the North Bay this afternoon, it might be helpful to watch out for a fire cleanup, and the traffic jam it has caused, on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.

One eastbound lane of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge is shut down this morning while crews work to clean up after a big-rig fire and remove the burned truck from the roadway, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The fire was reported shortly after 10 a.m. on the bridge at the Marin-Contra Costa county line, according to the CHP.

Both eastbound lanes were initially blocked as crews responded, and one lane reopened around 10:30 a.m.

The fire, which is now out, resulted in a diesel spill, CHP Officer Marc Johnston said. It is unknown how much spilled.

There is no estimate yet for when the lane that remains blocked
will be cleared.
