5 Things: Tijuana, Transit Center, Lawyer in the Library

All that and more in this week's 5 Things...

Not all that long ago, the infamous Mexico area called Tijuana was founded as a city. In fact, it was in this week in 1889 that the previous powers that be decided to develop Tijuana into a city that would attract tourism, mainly from neighboring California. And attract is has. Some of my earliest memories of visiting Tijuana include driving though the dusty and colorful streets, eating cheap and delicious seafood, and one traumatizing event where my cousin and I unknowingly romped around in sewage drift while on the beach. And though I don't recommend traveling to TJ for the time being, those were the days … and this, this is 5 Things.

1) Have you ever had to run for your life? This time, try running for somebody else’s life. The second annual Relay for Life is this Saturday and Sunday starting at 9 a.m. on both days. Check out some more details and here, and don’t forget to let Hercules Patch know if you’ll be joining the race. We want pics!

2) Everyone wants a lawyer in the family. Well, now Hercules has a lawyer in the library. On Tuesday at 7 p.m., the library will host Michael Epstein of Lipman & Wolf, LLP, who will hold brief individual discussions with those interested in immigration law.

3) The future of the Hercules Redevelopment Agency will be talked about, along with a number of other items, at this Tuesday’s meeting at 7 p.m. As always, it will be held in the Hercules l Council Chambers. Of course, items other than the RDA will be discussed at Tuesday’s meeting, but you’ll just have to read our coverage or attend the event in person to find out. Or read the agenda here.

4) There are there are two other public government meetings to know about this week:

  • Monday at 7 p.m., the meets at City Hall. This will be the last time the commission convenes until Sept. 12—so says the city’s website.
  • Wednesday at 7 p.m., the Hercules Planning Commission will hold a special meeting about the environmental impact report (EIR) for the Intermodal Transit Center. This meeting is for the commission to consider recommending that the city council—at a later meeting—certify the EIR.

5) Finally for this week, a fellow Herculean needs your help. This resident has a broken window and needs it repaired. He/she is a Web developer and is willing to trade some of his/her Web skills for your time and effort on the broken window. If you’re interested, click here.
