5 Things: Halloween Happenings, Missing Doggy, Harry Houdini

This week in 1926 marked the end of a magical era. Magician, escapologist and much, much more Harry Houdini had his last act. It was a few fatal blows from a college student that ultimately did the legendary Houdini in.

Cheers to the King of Cards and onto 5 Things…

1) Are your jack o'lanterns carved and your candy bowls filled? Well, it’s not too late. Halloween is still a week away, but in the meantime, the Hercules Halloween Fest happens this Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Teen Center. More details about the festivities can be found here.

2) Speaking of Halloween, all week, the will have a Guess the Weight of the Pumpkin open to all children. The kid who makes the best guess wins a prize. The library will also host a daylong Day of the Dead crafts event on Saturday.  Both events are free.

3) You won’t find yourself bogged down by government meetings this week. There is a City Council meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the . Other than that, the Citizens Legal Ad Hoc Committee meet-up has been canceled. That’s it for meetings.

4) People, Peanut is missing! The two-year-old Chihuahua/terrier-mix escaped from its family’s Hercules home two Saturdays ago. If you’ve spotted Peanut (pic attached to this article), click here.

5) If you’re looking for a possibly risqué getaway this weekend, but you’re not sure where to go or how to get there, someone is offering a ride from Hercules to Las Vegas on Friday. They will be coming back Monday. For details, click here.
