Orchard Supply Hardware is proud to announce donations to two Pinole community organizations: the West Contra Costa Unified School District’s Transitions Program and the Pinole Garden Club.

“Supporting the neighborhoods we serve is a strong part of our history,” says Richard Maltsbarger, Orchard Supply Hardware’s President. “These groups are making a real difference in Pinole and we are happy to contribute to their efforts.”

Orchard Supply Hardware has pledged $1,000 to the Transitions Program, a vocational training school for disabled young adults ages 18-22.

The Orchard Supply Hardware store in Pinole already partners with the Transitions Program through the state’s WorkAbility program, providing students a workplace where they can learn the functional life and job skills they need to enter the wider community.

“Orchard associates consistently provide excellent customer service, which makes them wonderful role models for our students,” said Theresa Gonzalez, the Transitions Vocational Program Manager.

An additional pledge of $1,000 to the Pinole Garden Club has also been made. Established in 1956 to promote gardening knowledge and appreciation, the club has taken an active role in civic beautification, including maintaining Pinole’s Welcome Wall, as well as the historic Faria House Rose Garden.

“This was a wonderful surprise,” said Garden Club President Emmy Swenson. “Through projects like our annual Arbor Day tree plantings, speakers’ bureau, horticulture scholarships and our semi-annual Front Garden Contest awards, a gift like this can find its way to many parts of our Pinole community.”

“Orchard Supply Hardware began as a co-op, so playing an active role in the community comes naturally to us,” notes Maltsbarger. “We are honored to sponsor the work of these two worthy organizations.”

Maltsbarger presented the checks to the organizations at an Open House celebration at its Pinole store located at 1440 Fitzgerald Dr. on March 29.
