Fire Near Highway 4 and I-80 Extinguished (Updated)

The two-alarm fire has been extinguished.

Update: Firefighters have extinguished a two-alarm grass fire that threatened homes near the intersection of state Highway 4 and Interstate Highway 80 in Hercules Friday afternoon, according to Contra Costa County Fire Protection District dispatchers.

The blaze was reported at 11:45 a.m. and had burned three acres by the time firefighters contained the fire around 12:25 p.m., a dispatcher said.

In addition to burning grass, the flames also burned some fences and decks, but crews were able to stop the fire from spreading to homes, she said.

No injuries were reported in connection with the blaze, the cause of which is under investigation.
