Miss Hercules Enters Miss Teen California Pageant

The winner of the week-long competition will be eligible to compete in the Miss Teen USA competition.

Domonique Jones has been keeping busy since the inaugural Miss Hercules Beauty Pageant last spring.

She has appeared throughout the city, speaking before the city council, helping out at Hannah Ranch elementary school with the Rotary Club of Hercules’ Dictionary Drive, and most recently, preparing for her role in the upcoming Miss Teen California USA pageant.

The winner of the week-long competition, which will be held in January 2012 in Palm Springs, will be eligible to compete in the Miss Teen USA pageant.

“I’ve been exercising to get in shape and looking at designs for the dresses and the evening gowns,” said Jones, who carried a 4.2 GPA as a junior and is currently a senior at Hercules Middle High School. “I’ve been eating right and cutting down on junk food and sugar, and drinking a lot of water.”

Part of the prize for winning the Miss Hercules Beauty Pageant included the sponsorship of the Miss Hercules Organization in future pageants.

The sponsorship includes the $1800 entrance fee for the statewide contest, which accounts for hotel accommodations, travel, meals, a make-up and a hair stylist, and a complimentary photo shoot in the Miss Teen California magazine. The same team that worked with Jones on the Hercules competition will be prep her for the Miss Teen California pageant.

In return, Jones is expected to continue her civic tour of duty, maintain her stellar grades and serve as a role model for young women in the community.

“Winning Miss Hercules really gave me an idea of what to expect and what the judges are looking for,” Jones said. “They’re not just looking for someone that’s beautiful, but someone that’s a positive role model for young women who’s able to be well-spoken and physically healthy.”

The Miss Teen California competition will have three categories: Swimwear, evening wear, and a question and answer session. Contestants were selected after submitting an application and photograph of themselves online, before filling out a questionnaire and partaking in a one-on-one interview.

The Miss Hercules Organization is planning a fundraiser next month, when Jones will travel to Los Angeles for a celebrity volleyball tournament—in which she’ll cheer on her Miss Teen California team—at the end of September.

Until then, Miss Hercules will have several months to get in shape and continue her citywide tour (which will likely include an appearance at the opening of Duck Park Pond and a visit to Children’s Hospital in Oakland) in the near future.
