GET OUT: Garden Tour, Fashion Show and Garage Sale

Charity events, Mother's Day preview and more this weekend.

Where/When: 595 Tennent Ave., Pinole; Saturday, registration begins at 7:30 a.m., race at 8:30 a.m.

Why Go: Participate in this citywide 5K to raise money for the Pinole Swim Center. All levels welcome.

Why Go: Buy a garage-sale house map for just a quarter at the library and take off all over the city to find bargains galore.

Pricing: Free, but maps cost 25¢

Why Go: Come honor the mothers of our community, enjoy "tea and desserts" and see the latest trends in fashion. Enjoy music, snacks and entertainment. All proceeds collected will benefit the teens of Hercules.  Don't miss special guest appearances by the Miss Hercules contestants, as they take to the runway at the fashion show. T.Y.C. will be honoring Hercules Senior Center volunteers.

Why Go: Emmy-nominated actor and comedian Martin Short, of Saturday Night Live and Jiminy Glick fame, headlines this local comedy show, which benefits homeless charity HomeAid.

Where/When: 1556 Brown St., Martinez; Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Why Go: Free, award-winning tour features 50 Alameda and Contra Costa county gardens that are pesticide-free, conserve water, provide habitat for wildlife, and contain 50 percent or more native plants. This self-drive tour showcases a variety of gardens, from large parcels in the hills to small lots in the flats. Native plant sales and talks are offered at select gardens.
