The Week Ahead: Sycamore North, Fire Station Grant

Some of the things happening this week in Pinole, Hercules

The Hercules City Council will preside over a special meeting on Tuesday night to decide whether to begin eminent domain proceedings for land connected to the unfinished Sycamore North development.

The public portion of the meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Hercules City Hall, 111 Civic Drive.

The land in question is an alley that is needed for emergency access for the residential-retail complex.

The property is owned by the Bayside Home Owners Association. Representatives have said they want the top two stories of the project eliminated before agreeing to turn over the land.

The Pinole City Council will also meet on Tuesday evening.

The main item on the agenda is the council's reconsideration of a $1.24 million grant to help re-open the closed fire station in Pinole Valley.

The council turned down the grant in June. Last month, the Rodeo-Hercules Fire District announced it would apply for the funds.

The council will also discuss three design contracts for the proposed Pinole Skate Park.

The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 2131 Pear St.

There are variety of classes and programs sponsored by the Hercules Parks and Recreation Department. You can check them out on the department's website.

On Saturday, the Pinole Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Fernandez Avenue and Pear Street.
