The Week Ahead: Skate Park, Bond Sales, Citywide Garage Sale

Some of the meetings and activities happening this week in Pinole and Hercules

On Tuesday evening, the Hercules City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

On the agenda is expenditures for new light fixtures in the Victoria By The Bay subdivision and Intermodal Transit Center.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall, 111 Civic Ave.

On Wednesday afternoon, a meeting will be held at Pinole City Hall to discuss building a skate park in town.

Skate park designers will discuss their ideas for the facility as well as answer questions.

The meeting begins at 3 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.

On Wednesday evening, the West Contra Costa Unified School District board of education will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

On the agenda is the proposed sale of up to $125 million in school bonds. The bonds were authorized with the passage of Measure D in June 2010 and Measure E in November 2012.

The board will also be asked to approve new contracts with two employee groups as well as a $4.9 million contract for 90 portable classrooms for Pinole Valley High School when the campus undergoes a renovation in fall 2014.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at LoVonya DeJean Middle School, 3400 Macdonald Ave., Richmond.

On Thursday evening, back-to-school nights will be held at high schools in the West Contra Costa Unified district. Those schools will have minimum days on Thursday.

On Friday morning, a flag-raising ceremony will be held at Hanna Ranch Elementary School in Hercules. Students will assemble for Reveille at 8:45 a.m. After colors, the Pledge of Allegiance and the Star Spangled Banner, the school will raise the California Distinguished School Flag.

On Friday evening, the monthly ballroom dance will be held at the Pinole Senior Center, 2500 Charles Ave.

The dance is from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. with music by the Manny Gutierrez Band. Admission is $10.

On Saturday, a citywide garage sale is being held in Hercules. The event is designed to encourage the re-use and recycling of unwanted items.

Maps to participating homes will be sold for 50 cents from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the front parking lot of the Hercules Public Library.

Also on Saturday, the weekly Pinole Farmers Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Tennent and San Pablo Avenue.
